not realy a scam if you look at the big picture fredchabotnick. You just have to think of it this way when gas gose up $.30 a gallon for you and you fill up a 10 gallon tank it's $3.00 more. When the same gas gose uo $.30 a gallon they fill up thier 10,000 gallon tank it's $3,000 more they have to pay.

we are paying US$3.59 per gallon here in oz, however the bulk of that goes to our money hungry goverment in taxes, if you are lucky enough to have your car converted to lpg gas it will cost you slightly higher than 1/3 that
i.e to fill my car on petrol $76.00 or to fill it on gas $29.00 for around the same milage per fill

I am very thankful to live in a city with awesome public transit. I got rid of my car when I realized my cost of living raise was not competing with the cost of insurance and the rising cost of gas.

Our transit commission has just started monthly passes for $100. You get unlimited use of the system (as always) but now you can lend the card to anyone else, too (as long as you're not on the same ride. 'No passback' signs are everywhere now).

I jusr went to try and get some gas and the pumps were lined up all over. I found out they're marking it up again $3.17/gal now... damn that's .50 higher than last week. Looks like I'm not making any extra trips anywhere soon.

Yesterday I decided to try & fill up before the price went up yet again...sadly, everyone else had the same idea earlier, half the stations in town are now out...checked on the Kroger Fuel center again today, they're still out, but they've jacked up the price on the signs already...amazing how they can gouge ya without even having product to sell...

btw, our governor has promised to give the stations a firm warning if they start price gouging...I can see the intimidation is working already

Great question. I just read that the US Fed Gov't has asked Carnival Cruise Lines to help, and I was sad to see that Carnival is considering it but doesn't seem optimistic in their response. I also read that Texans are to the rescue preparing the Astrodome and Reunion tower as places for the refugees to go. FEMA has allocated buses to get the people moved from New Orleans to Houston and/or Dallas.

On another note, am I the only one that is highly annoyed by the multitudes of reports that don't know it's pronounced "nawlins"?

I'm tremendously impressed by the generosity and compassion of Texas. God bless 'em. And to everyone that has gone to the Red Cross or donated to help those in need.

I understand a hospital ship is on it's way from Baltimore to help. Was Carnival being asked to provide temporary shelter? That would be impressive if they did use one of their ships for that purpose, wouldn't it?

Actually, the only country outside the US that I've heard has offered anything is Saudi Arabia ... who offered to increase oil production to help. They were not the first I expected to hear from, but bless them if they did. We complain about them often enough ... they deserve credit when they do good.

Nope... and I'm from nowhere near there.

I haven't noticed any increases in gas here... yet.

Indeed, the request to Carnival was for temporary housing/shelter. In these times while they can't be picky in the aide they receive, it's fun for me to see the creative ways in which its offered or asked for.

And back to the topic from Lilith... I noticed today that prices here are as high as 2.89. Of course I noticed this when I was slightly lost and watching the miles and gas tick on by wastefully.

Gas was $2.79 when I left for work and $2.99 when I came home. .39 cents now in 2 days.

The radio stations are playing the state's # to report price gouging. This is completely unacceptable. McDonald's doesn't charge me today for what they believe a hamburger will cost in the future.

To me it sounds like a game they play in the IT world. A business calls...

'We can increase your productivity 100% with our new whizbang system.'

'Well, how much is your new whizbang system?'

'Well, let me ask you this... what kind of budget do you have?'

'$10,000.'

'Great, our whizbang system costs $9,999.'

Well thanks to those who are proud of us Texans....it is what we do.

As far as the prices of gas in East Texas....

regular $2.89
super $2.99
supreme $3.09

Also, one of the officers that I work with is the kid of the man that owns KIdd Jones gas stations in my town (about 8 stores) He called and told us that they had heard from his suppliers that it will the price will in crease $1.31 more on top of what they already pay before this is all over.

He is worried about goin bankrupt.
