I really love Mark Doty, both his memoirs and his poetry. He inspires me as a writer; his words are just so beautiful.

My absolute favorite writer is John Irving.
I also enjoy Kafka, Stephen King, Jeffrey Deaver, Robin Cook, and, to lose myself for a little while, James Patterson.

I absolutely LOVE reading! I'm of the same ones that can finish several books in a week...even though I have limited time to read. But, I also finish several audio books a week too, at work. We pass audio books around constantly. I like Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum is a hoot!), Patricia Cornwell, Sandra Brown, Dean Koontz, Laurell K. Hamiliton, Christine Feehan, Anne Rice...I'm sure there's others, but I can't think right now. I've read one by Spider Robinson, and other various authors. I read a wide variety of stuff most times.

First name that came to mind was Tom Clancy. I seldom read fiction, but when I read one of his books, typically I'll finish it the same day.
Also like Douglas Adams, but, primarily because of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and, Tolkien for The Lord of the Rings.

I like many of the authors here. I would add Glen Cook (Fantasy, Sci Fi stuff) and Harlan Corbin (Private Eye stuff).

oops, I forgot about those two, I've read several of their novels, and enjoyed every one.
But then again, if I tried to list EVERY author that I like, I'd be here for days and days
