US - "Somethin' Stupid" by Nancy Sinatra & Frank Sinatra
UK - Frank Sinatra & Nancy Sinatra - Somethin' Stupid
well gee, the only variety I get is in which order they put artists and song names
LYRICS
Somethin' Stupid
(Frank & Nancy Sinatra)
I know I stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me.
And if we go some place to dance I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me.
Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place and have a drink or two.
And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you"
I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lies you heard the night before.
And though it's just a line to you, for me it's true and never felt so right before.
I practice every day to find some clever lines to say to make the meaning come true,
But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late and I'm alone with you.
The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and oh the night so blue.
And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you"
The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and oh the night so blue.
And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
SUBNOTE ON SONG
Nancy's endearing, enduring duet with her dad was coproduced by Jimmy Bowen (who usually worked with Frank at Reprise) and Lee Hazlewood (Nancy's primary producer).
She has very fond memories of that session: "On the first take, Daddy got silly, sounding his S's like Daffy Duck, which made me laugh and spoil the take, so we had to do two or three more. Mo Ostin, the president of Reprise Records, bet Frank two dollars the song would be a bomb. Dad said it would be a Top 10 record."
The bet was on. With Frank's "Give Her Love" on the B-side, "Somethin' Stupid" charted March 18, 1967 (just two weeks after "Summer Wine" began charting). "Somethin' Stupid" became Nancy's second global #1, occupying the summit in America for four weeks beginning April 15. The single also spent nine weeks at #1 on Billboard¼s A/C chart. No other father-daughter duet has achieved either feat, before or since.
Four days later, "Somethin' Stupid" was certified gold by the RIAA, Nancy's third gold 45.
"I still have Mo's framed two-dollar bill," Nancy smiles.
YUP! I HAD TO LOOK IT UP!!
I R SCARED NOW!
