No problem at all when people smoke in their own cars or homes or any public place even though I don't smoke (anymore) and don't like the smell ... but ... and I'm really serious ... had a scare a month or so ago. The feller who delivers gasoline to a filling station in town came into the station shaking. He'd been filling the underground tanks when he realized that a "LIT CIGARETTE" had rolled across the lot and caught on the edge of the tank opening. If wind had blown it over the edge ... the tank would have blown, the corner destroyed and a number of people ... including me ... killed or injured.
Please ... if you smoke ... put them out before you go into a gas station or into your ash tray before you get out of the car. Please!
Thanks.

Woah....glad you're safe DB.
Smoking or no smoking..."stupid" will get you killed every time. Unfortunately, it doesn't alway just kill the one committing "stupid"...it spreads.

Ohhhhh, that gets into a pet peeve there. I think people should be able to smoke in there own car, but they need to keep the butt in their car when they're done. I see cigs, many still lit, dropped out of car windows all the time. Aside from it collecting on the side of the road with other trash, it also has a potential to start a fire. It's just a very irresponsible thing to do.
Glad you came out of that situation unscathed db!

I would have been shaking in my shoes too...
A bit of trivia from my old mechanic.... (I have never put this to a test though) He said that it isn't gasoline that starts a fire, it is the fumes that are flamable. He would often have a small bucket (pint) of gas a day or two old that he would toss his cigerettes into and never had a problem as the didn't put off any fumes...

Ummm DB, as much as I understand your concern. That lit smoke would've gone out. It takes a flame to ignite gasoline or the fumes. I used to pump gas at a station and smoke all the while. As for the legislation thing, I'd say PF's right..... road rage city!

I worked in a refinery(Mobil)for almost 10 years here, and made gas,as well as propane, and few other wonderful things, lol.I think that sometimes I forget all the safety training they gave us there, and then react when laws like this come about.Fighting fires, and taking consideration for things that petroleum products can do,is almost second nature.
That said..I also aided in the rescue of several people that were testing products(that was part of our job)and thought that their cig would go out when they threw it in a bucket of gas or sometimes even kerosene.I can tell ya first hand,it don't work..
We even had a black guy that tried it,and his skin grafts didn't come in the right color.OK,he got rich on the lawsuit, but damn..He was about 1/8 white!!
I don't smoke around that shit at all.Trust me on this one..

i hereby suggest that a new law be enacted immediately...showering is dangerous. you could slip and fall, possibly getting a contusion, concussion or abrasion--possibly even worse than that! from now on you MUST shower with a partner, keeping your hands on them at all times for support and extra stability... four hands are better than two, you know
