SEX in the NEWS 9/21/02
Most young people not using condoms - survey
Two thirds of 19 to 25-year-olds are still having sex without a condom, according to a new survey.
A poll into youth attitudes toward sex, drugs and drink found more than 56% of teenagers aged 16 to 18 admitted having sex without protection.
This increased to 74% for 22- to 25-year-olds.
Meanwhile, more than half of those questioned aged 16 to 25 had tried cannabis and a third of 16 to 18s admitted using the drug. The figure for those aged 22 to 25 increased to 60%.
In the survey, 54% of the 16 to 25 age group admitted to binge drinking, which doctors say is particularly damaging to health, and 80% admitted a one-night stand after getting drunk.
The YouGov survey questioned 1,568 people aged 16 to 25 online. The poll was commissioned by Channel Five for its youth news programme The Edit.
But the survey did find some "traditional values" among young people.
An overwhelming 79% of 16- to 21-year-olds have never cheated on their partners and 54% of 16 to 18-year-olds are still virgins.
On sexual orientation, 15% of the 16 to 25 group did not consider themselves as "straight", 5% thought of themselves as gay and 6% as bisexual.

Lil,
15% didn't consider themselves straight, but they gave figures
for only 11%.
62 people in the survey weren't straight, gay or bisexual.
Did I oversleep and miss a new sexual alternative?
Is this line of questioning becoming gross? It can be.
No, Mistress, I'll behave, just a little slap.

I had the same question as Oldfart.
Hmmm, that's what I get for trying to do mental math on a weekend.
Perhaps it's just time for a nap, and let the unconscious work on that pesky 4%. If I dream up something, I'll post it.

It is my belief that the missing 4% represents those kids who believe themselves to be aliens and there fore asexual reproducers
OK I just hunt this stuff............. next time I will read it more clearly before I pick an article to offer for thought......
Funny, was no one in absolute shock about how many young adults are risking everything for sex???????????????

I would have thought that with all the technology and information available to young people today, they would be a little wiser than to risk their lives for a little fun in the sack. I was under the impression that despite outward appearances sometimes, young adults were smarter nowadays, more mature and could accept the responsibility that comes along with being a young adult.
I only hope and pray, that my three children, aged 10, 5, and 3, have more sense. I hope that I'm raising them right and giving them enough information and privacy to make the right decisions when the time comes. It's not easy being a parent these days, and I think it's even harder to be a teenager.

Thanks for the explanation of the 4%, Lilith. Under the circumstances, 4% aliens is the good news.
Shocked about so many young people having unsafe sex? Yes. Surprised? No. (Esp. not after prior thread on fuck buddies.) HIV has a relatively long timeline, and news of new treatments has, I'm afraid, led many people (not just young) to think to it as a treatable condition.

You have to remember that young people believe that they are invincible and that would not happen to them. Oh the follies of youth.
