Nice one, Scarecrow. I've been thinking about this a lot the past few days. It's the first Remembrance Day my grandmother will miss and I'm adding her to my list of thoughts when I observe the two minutes silence at 11am. She was four years old at the beginning of the Great War, the same age my daughter is now.

I found this when I was browsing online last night:

Quote:
On 11 November 1918 the Armistice was signed between the Allied and German armies, ending the First World War – a global war that lasted four years with the total human cost to Britain and the Empire of 3,049,972 casualties, including 658,705 dead.
Too many deaths to even begin to comprehend

Britain's oldest man, and one of the very few survivors of people who fought in the Great War, Henry Allingham (aged 112), has said:
Quote:
"These hellish memories of war are ones I'd rather forget. But never my comrades. Never the men who gave their everything." During a visit to a war cemetery in France, he was quoted as saying, "All of us must remember them, always."
To all those who fought and died for their countries around the world, you will be remembered today with the greatest of respect.

We had a bugler at the Memorial in a park near my work. At the eleventh hour, the ode of remembrance and the Last Post.

A special gratitude to all that serve. We can not forget, I will always remember.
