I kept hearing mentions (ok so technically seeing..geez) of soundtracks in my fucked up movie thread. So decided to mention a few of my faves and then let you guys tell me yours. Now I am not talking about these crappy soundtracks that come out nowadays..."with music inspired by...such and such movie" That is a rip-off to me...I am talking about music in the movies, that is either very important or even guides the movie. I like good scores, but tend to love movies that use the music of the time.

A few of my faves that i could think of off the top of my head.

Almost Famous...the music was awesome and actually made me like "Tiny Dancer"

High Fidelity...Watch this movie and notice that the music sometime is louder than the dialogue, music makes this movie.

American Beauty...Once again the use of loud music helps this really good movie become great.

Forest Gump...possibly one of the best 60's 70's soundtracks you could find, still one of my faves to just listen to.

Now I know lots of you hated Eyes Wide Shut...but the banging score on that movie was intense and classic Kubrick (but btw he was dead before the score was done)...

For me to say that the score made a movie better or saved it is too subjective for me. I can tell you the scores that made the movie very memorable or became synonymous with the film. In some cases, just the tune sets a whole attitude even apart from the movie for me.

The “DA-DA DA-DA……..” from Jaws is one that starts the “ALERT” juices flowing in most people. Now is the tempo and low frequency of that tune so similar to the physiological reaction that take place inside of us or wouldn’t it have the same effect if we hadn’t seen the movie? I don’t know??

Movies that come to mind as having a musical “SIGNATURE” or identification for me are like:
The Good, the BAD and the UGLY.
Doctor Zhivago
Gold Finger (with 007)
2001 (another Stanley Kubrick)
Patton
Theme from Dragnet
(And one nobody else knows:
Theme from Summer Place by Percie Faith)

Okay, my all time favorite Soundtrack - Last of the Mohicans starting Daniel Day Lewis

This is all Instrumental but very powerful. One of my favorite movies as well.

I love soundtracks as they are normally a good buy because you get a range of music by different artists.

I'm with Steph. I consider "Pulp Fiction" a cinema classic. All facets of the movie, including soundtrack, were near perfection.

The latest soundtrack I purchased, though, was from "O, Brother Where Art Thou". That is another movie where the look, feel, and sound of the movie was unique. Everyone will always remember George Clooney in a ZZ-top beard yodeling about his constant sorrow.

Dude33~Last of the Mohicans is probably the best score I've ever heard...I have actually worn out 2 CD's...I listened to them so much they started skipping.

Pulp Fiction had a great soundtrack, but my favorite soundtrack was "A Kind of Magic" by Queen. 99% of it was the soundtrack for the first Highlander Movie.

Now everybody knows how old we are.

I liked the music they used in .........Knight's Tale......the movie was nothing if not for the soundtrack......I had "Golden Years" Bowie playing in my head for weeks.

Hey....we aren't old......just aged to perfection, like a good bottle of wine!

I love old movies and I saw it too as a kid in front of that old black and white console model......The movie was made in '59 and so I imagine I saw the first time in the early 60's.

I adore old movies and if you think about it, it was pretty risque for the times!
