I caught the last two-thirds of "Eyes Wide Shut" w/Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman the other night...and I am totally and completely confused as to what happened, who the dead girl is/was (the redhead w/the nice bush), and why Cruise kept having flashbacks to Kidman being fucked...!

If I remember right, Cruise was suspicious his wife had an affair, but didn't know for sure. His imagination was running wild with thoughts of what it might have looked like. Not sure about the deal with the dead girl.

Yeah, the whole thing is quite confusing. Here's my take on it:

Cruise's flashbacks: He's imagining his wife having an affair, I don't think they are real scenes at all.

The girl: This one is more complex. Cruise stumbled into something they wished to keep private. Their reaction was to try to scare him into leaving them alone and keeping quiet about it. The girl had a drug problem and ODed, they wove that into the plot to scare him.

lol - I've watched this movie so many times and still couldn't tell ya what happened, I'm in the same boat.

Never seen any part of the movie, but I'd like to point out that this was the last film from director Stanley Kubrick, who built a career making films that no one understood...

I'm still trying to figure out the final sequence of "2001"...

What a legacy.Stanley Kubrick's last film was a bomb. Cruise and Kidman were OK in it. Highlight of movie for me was when Nicole Kidman wiped herself after using the toilette.The movie itself was an oddesy through an American city,grimey with sexual exploitation in all forms.In he beginning party scene Nicole faught off being seduced by another Doctor while Tom is being lead away with promises of a threesome.After a colleague dies,Cruise spends time wandering through the streets incountering sexual exploitation everywhere.From the prostitute he goes home with,gives her money,but doesn't sleep with her to the man who pimps his uderage daughter at a costume shop.After meeting a friend who tells him of a party by the rich elite and powerful,Cruise decides to see this for himself and after visiting a costume shop,crashes this party.There he finds a combination masked ball,orgy of what appears to be Satanic worshippers.Having unlimited sex with just about anyone never looked so unappetising before.The whole event looked mechanical.Slaves were used as mere toys for this group of annonomous wealthy powerful {pillars of our socieity.} Cruise barely escapes with his life after it was found out he had crashed it but only at the expense of having a a gorgeous woman take his place for punishment.After ward Cruise reads of a model who has died ofa drug overdose and realizes ht was the woman who took his place at the party.The friend, who told him about this place is missing as well.Cruise confronts a Dr. collegue who was there and is told drop the subject.Don't think about what you saw. Your friend is probably back home with his wife,and as for the model,well she was a junkie and died of an overdose.A pretty bleak movie as you can tell.I really didn't like this film very much.

I'm afraid I just couldn't get past how old and fat Tom Cruise looked, and all of a sudden I also realised how much he looks like my dad!

After that I just couldn't take the film seriously, I'm afraid.

You didn't address the first question, though.

The images of another man fucking Nicole was Tom imagining what could have happened when Nicole met this particular military officer. In the movie she told him how she met this guy and came within a hair of fucking him and that given the chance she probably would have.

It apparently made an impression on him.

In short it is all about fantasy and communication between couples and how if you don't communicate it will all fall apart. In a nutshell of course. I think that the whole is fantasy, he comes out of it at the end when his daughter grabs his hand, if I remember it right.
