Fish question not sex related :)
So on a 5.5 gallon tank that had room temp water put in and then a heater put in for 30 hours, should the water still feel cold? Wouldn't 78 degree water feel warm?

Perhaps not to a hand that is 98.6 degrees itself.

True Red, I got a temp. strip for the side.
LOL Lilith.
I also went and got a different heater and like this one better. Returning the other one tomarrow. I'm not happy with the sales people. If stores(Meijer) are going to sell fish they need to get people who know what they are doing.

You still have questions?
Sharni .............. (OilyFanatic/Noah/FagNasty/BudLover) can give you the best temp range for whatever type fish you're incarcerating I'm sure, but I think you'll want a thermometer in that tank.

Sodak: those temperature strips are notoriously inaccurate. Best advice is probably to get a "real" theremometer.

lol, we did kind of want one but the landlord won't let that go so it was a fish. If he dies we'll get another. Hopefully he'll be ok for a bit.

My tank water feels warm when i put my hand in, i run my tanks around 25C (75F), anything over that is really only needed for discus.
Strip thermometers are ok, as stated not 100% accurate, but tare pretty good. Most put them in the wrong position in the tank. They need to be placed near the bottom of the tank and away from the heater. I have a few tanks with strip ones, had no probs.
I did (note the did) have the 'real' type, but the suction cups eventually give way and they then become a problem, usually ending with them breaking and you then having to toss and substrate due to the fine glass in it.
I now have a thermometer that does not stay in any of the tanks, i check the tanks during maintenance, or if i think there is a problem, then put it away *L*
What sort of fish are you getting?

A hybrid cichlid.
Your tank may not be big enough for him though, it should matures to 6 - 8 inches
